Events

Check back often to see a listing of events in the Fredericton area and some planning documentation to help with planning your own events!

Hanwell observing sessions are generally on clear Friday and Saturday nights, or anytime there is something exceptional to see. We observe and take photos of the planets, variable and double stars, comets, Space Station, Shuttle, and deep sky objects. All of our events are open to the public and we encourage anyone with an interest in the sky to attend!

Most club members are from the Hanwell and New Maryland areas but ALL ARE WELCOME!!!

Included on the observing night:
* Overview of the observing plans - fun and sharing are the key objectives of the evening
* Handouts of sky charts and other astro information (RASC and WBJ membership information)
* Treasure hunt list with prizes - on event nights
* Challenge list of night sky objects
* Poor man's laser light show of the night sky
* Various telescopes to demonstrate the different views of the same object (compare before you buy for new observers)
* Hot chocolate for those willing to stay out with the stars (10pm and midnight) - on event nights
* And more!

What we request you bring:
* An interest and/or curiousity of the night sky
* binoculars or telescope if you have them... if not... this will be a perfect opportunity to see the sky like you never have before!
* flashlight (for when you leave... please cover the white light with red saran wrap (ie gift paper) or something not white
* a mug to help with the environment (vs paper/styrofoam cups) for the hot chocolate - on event nights
* chairs and blankets if you want to sit and watch for meteors, flairs, or just enjoy the Milky Way
* a friend and family member...
* WARM CLOTHES... when that big ball of fire we call the sun hits the horizon it gets chilly... and standing still... gets chillier!
